Bute's Victoria to carry Olympic Flame!
Bute's Victoria O’Reilly will be carrying the Olympic Flame during the 2012 Torch Relay when it comes to Scotland soon.
The 41-year-old will be holding the Torch as it goes through Beith on Friday, June 8. She is not the only Bute resident to be given the honour - earlier in the year, s1bute reported that 17-year-old Rothesay Academy pupil Jenna Speirs would be carrying the Flame through Girvan.
Victoria, who works as a mental health officer and social worker on Bute, said: “This is a wonderful event to be part of and a once in a life time chance to be connected to the Olympic Games."
Victoria was nominated to be a Torchbearer by Christine Macdonald, a support worker for the Mental Health Team on Bute. In her recommendation, Christine said: "The mental health project on Bute have asked me to put her name forward to be a Torchbearer.
"I think she is very special and is a great inspiration and motivator. Victoria is not only a full time mental health officer she also is a great mother, wife and friend. I would be very pleased if she got a chance to do this and I know everyone on Bute will be there with her 100%"
Victoria added: “I feel extremely honoured and proud to have been nominated by the people at my work and hope that all those who are planning to come and watch will have a fantastic day.
“There is a real sense of community with thousands of people working together to carry the torch around the UK.”
Well done Victoria!
