15/1/2010Icy weather gave Millport and Bute curlers chance to play for Dumfries Cup on outside ice - twice!

Wonderful style from the Bute skip (Donnie McLeod) closely watched by the Millport skip (Frank Mapes). Photos by Sandy Morton.

The recent spell of wonderful icy weather gave the Curlers from Millport and Bute the chance to play for the Dumfries Cup, last played for on outside ice 14 years ago.

Bute played in Millport and won and when the Millport Curlers went to Bute it was 1 game each so Bute hold the Dumfries Cup, first played for in 1931.
Weather on both days was fantastic although the ice conditions were slightly better on Bute than on Millport.

Lots of spectators enjoyed the spectacle so at the end of the day Curling won!

See more of Sandy's photos of the outside curling in our Picture Gallery.

Teams on the ice on the Greenan Loch in Bute - a bit bigger than the Millport pond.

Health and Safety (HM Coastguard) were present and enjoyed trying our game.
