Rothesay is the only town on the Isle of Bute in the Firth of Clyde, but villages include Ascog, Ardbeg, Kerrycroy, Kilchattan Bay, Kingarth, Port Bannatyne, Straad and Rhubodach. Caledonian MacBrayne ferries sail from Rothesay to Wemyss Bay and Rhubodach to Colintraive. Bute has a rich history including evidence of prehistoric settlement, the 10th century Rothesay Castle, (reclaimed by Robert the Bruce in 1311) and the stunning Mount Stuart House. Still a destination for holidaymakers going 'doon the watter' from Glasgow, Rothesay hosts The Isle of Bute Jazz Festival, an Agricultural Show and a Highland Games. Rothesay Pavilion is a significant example of 1930s Art Deco. The Jewel on the Clyde is a bustling island with a population of over 7000 and s1bute.com has been developed to allow residents share their news, views and opinions, make announcements, publicise events and show off their photos and videos.
